Bio:
Born & raised in the Seattle area.
BA in Russian from Central Washington University
Completely self-taught in photography, though I sometimes think about taking courses to improve specific areas of work
Married to a diplomat (thus the ridiculous amounts of travel). It's a sweet life if you can put up with moving every couple of years and don't mind the occasional gastric distress.
Philosophy of Photography:
I have a range of interests and desires, and I enjoy trying to present them in my photography. The main theme in my work is simplicity. When people look at my work, I want it to be immediately accessible. I do create the occasional completely abstract image that may not have wide accessibility, but the general themes are of beauty and peace.
Specific Frustrating Goal:
The most challenging work I attempt is a purely conceptual and ideological pursuit to show the universe as beautiful without the need of a creator. Sometimes, in a landscape or a detail photo, I see nature's pure, godless perfection, but I know (because they've told me) that others see the hand of a god in it. It's fairly easy to show light or shadow, by playing the one off its opposite, but if the opposite doesn't exist, the difficulty is great. I'll keep trying, but I may have to settle for just creating beautiful images.
